Places to Visit in Alanya

Alanya — with its Seljuk-era walls, deep blue coves, cool plateaus and canyons — is a Mediterranean classic that offers "a route for every taste". The list below is organised by walking, scenery, history, sea and nature themes; they connect to each other easily within a day.

1) History & Views: Alanya Castle, Red Tower, Shipyard

  • Alanya Castle: Strengthened during the Seljuk era in the 13th century, the castle walls wrap around the peninsula for roughly 6 km, looking down on the city and the sea. A perfect spot for sunset.
  • Red Tower (Kızılkule): An octagonal tower dating from 1226, the symbol of Alanya, housing a small ethnographic museum inside. It was built to protect the harbour and the historic shipyard.
  • Alanya Cable Car: An easy ascent from Damlataş to the castle; a short ride with rich scenery. Check the seasonal hours from the official source.

2) Sea & Beach: Cleopatra and Damlataş

  • Cleopatra Beach: Famous for its fine, non-sticky sand; Blue Flag certified. Legend has it that Cleopatra and Antony swam here. Snorkelling and spotting fish are possible in the shallow, clear sections.
  • Damlataş Cave: Discovered in 1948 during harbour works; known for its stalactite formations and the air believed to be beneficial for asthma patients. Right next to the beach and the cable-car base.

3) Nature & Adventure: Sapadere and Dim River

  • Sapadere Canyon: About 40 km from the city centre; the valley stays cool even in summer, with wooden walkways, natural waterfalls and pools.
  • Dim River: Ideal for cooling off in summer; with restaurants, riverside platforms and natural swimming spots it is a pleasant route for families.
  • Dim Cave: One of Turkey's longest caves; the inside humidity and coolness offer a sweet break on hot summer days.

4) City & Bazaar: Alanya Centre

  • Marina and Yacht Harbour: One of the most popular routes for evening walks, coffee and views.
  • İskele Street: The city's main artery with souvenir shops, eateries and a lively crowd.
